Well, I’d written a nice in-depth report about the dangers of tonight’s “trap game” for the Lightning and how great tonight’s “Tampa Bay Fights Cancer” event is for the community, but my computer decided to flake out on me and not to save any of my work. The entire document was lost.

So…to steal from that new beer commercial where the entire news team rushes through the 6 p.m. newscast to get to happy hour across the street, here’s the short version (although I’m unfortunately not headed to happy hour):

Lightning coach John Tortorella said this morning that tonight is a trap game for the team because the Lightning are rolling while Washington is struggling. Tortorella indicated it’s the perfect setup for a letdown, and he wishes he could reach inside the heads of his players to make sure the “on button” is pushed.

The Lightning held an optional skate this morning, and the lineup appears unchanged from Wednesday. The Caps only had a few players skate this morning after last night’s loss in South Florida, and Coach Glen Hanlon wouldn’t give away his plan in goal tonight. Olaf Kolzig played last night.

Tonight is the 7th Annual Tampa Bay Fights Cancer Night, and more than 4,000 people involved in the fight against cancer will be in attendance thanks to The Yerrid Foundation and the Lightning Foundation. Community leader Steve Yerrid’s annual event is one of the best philanthropic undertakings in the Tampa Bay area!
