Tampa Bay Lightning Radio Network Returns to the Airwaves

TAMPA BAY – For the 11th consecutive season, all the 2008-09 Tampa Bay Lightning action will once again be heard on flagship station AM 620 WDAE. The team will broadcast all regular season games and four preseason games, starting with the team’s first game of the preseason, Saturday, September 20, at 7 p.m. in Pittsburgh.

Dave Mishkin returns for his sixth season as play-by-play announcer for the club. Lightning co-founder and Hockey Hall of Famer Phil Esposito will join Mishkin as home game color commentator for his eighth season in the booth. Matt Sammon will handle pregame, intermission, and postgame hosting duties for the third consecutive season. WDAE will also be the home of Lightning Hockey Hotline, the official postgame call-in show of the Lightning Radio Network, with Sammon and Lightning television color commentator Bobby “The Chief” Taylor broadcasting live from Trolleys American Café & Sports Bar at the Embassy Suites Hotel in downtown Tampa after every home game beginning October 11.

In addition to the airing of 86 games this season, WDAE will once again host the team’s two weekly radio shows Lightning Hockey Night and Lightning Radio Weekly. Lightning Hockey Night airs Wednesday nights from 7-8 p.m. when the Lightning are not playing. Lightning television play-by-play announcer Rick Peckham and 2004 Stanley Cup champion captain Dave Andreychuk co-host this weekly program with Lightning players and coaches as regular guests. On October 8 Lightning Hockey Night will broadcast live from Trolleys American Café & Sports Bar before hitting the road all season long with broadcasts from Wing House locations throughout the Tampa Bay area.

Lightning Radio Weekly airs Sunday nights from 7-8 p.m., and features a whole new sound this season. Dave Mishkin will host a fan Q & A segment each week with a Lightning player, coach, or member of management answering questions submitted by fans at The show’s debut Q & A on Sunday, September 21, features Lightning vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton as a guest. Fans can still submit questions to the guests of the September 28 program, Lightning owners Oren Koules and Len Barrie. Each week’s program will also feature an in-depth player interview by conducted by Sammon and a look at the week ahead in Lightning hockey.
