Prospect roundup: Somppi surges into February

The 2016 seventh-round pick has 11 points in his last seven games with the Halifax Mooseheads

With an emphasis on drafting and developing, the Tampa Bay Lightning have created one of the strongest pipelines in the National Hockey League over the last few years. Each week, TampaBayLightning.com will provide statistical updates on key prospects throughout the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and the National Collegiate Athletic Associaton (NCAA), and will highlight select players from the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Syracuse Crunch.

C Anthony Cirelli, Erie Otters

Drafted 72nd overall (3rd Round) in 2015

Cirelli continues to produce with the Otters, posting three goals and two assists in their weekend games to extend his point streak to five games. His two assists on Friday both came on the power play, and the first of his two goals on Saturday went down as the eventual game-winner in a 6-1 victory over Kingston.

LW Boris Katchouk, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds

Drafted 44th overall (2nd Round) in 2016

With the game-tying goal on the power play and an additional assist, Katchouk earned Third Star honors in the Soo's 7-4 win over North Bay on Sunday night. He has seven points in his last six games, and has climbed to second overall in club scoring with 44 points in 49 games.

C Christopher Paquette, Peterborough Petes

Drafted 148th overall (5th Round) in 2016

Paquette has been held off the scoresheet in his last two games. He has 36 points in 48 games on the season, and seven points in 11 games since he was traded to Peterborough.

RW Taylor Raddysh, Erie Otters

Drafted 58th overall (2nd Round) in 2016

Recording four points on the weekend, Raddysh has pushed his point streak to eight games for the Otters. He has 13 points in that span, including a three-point effort on Sunday night, earning him Third Star honors.

D Matt Spencer, Peterborough Petes

Drafted 44th overall (2nd Round) in 2015

Spencer is third in Petes' defensemen scoring with 22 points in 42 games.

C Mitchell Stephens, London Knights

Drafted 33rd overall (2nd Round) in 2015

Stephens has 14 points in 12 games since his arrival in London, and added his 18th goal of the season last Friday night in a 4-0 blanking of Owen Sound.

RW Jonne Tammela, Peterborough Petes

Drafted 118th overall (4th Round) in 2015

Tammela scored in his OHL debut on Nov. 8, but has played in just one game since, sidelined with a lower-body injury.

Western Hockey League (WHL)

D Libor Hajek, Saskatoon Blades

Drafted 37th overall (2nd Round) in 2016

Hajek is second in Blades' defensemen scoring with 20 points in 46 games.

C Brett Howden, Moose Jaw Warriors

Drafted 27th overall (1st Round) in 2016

Howden saw his seven game point streak come to an end on Saturday after posting six goals and five assists in that span. He ended the month of January with 18 points in 12 games, and already has five points through three games so far in February.

G Connor Ingram, Kamloops Blazers

Drafted 88th overall (3rd Round) in 2016

Ingram is 19-9-2-1 on the season for Kamloops to go along with a .929 save percentage and a 2.33 goals-against average.

Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)

LW Boko Imama, Saint John Sea Dogs

Drafted 180th overall (6th Round) in 2015

Imama finished January with nine points in 11 games, and continues to lead the Sea Dogs in goals with 32. He posted a two-point night in a 7-4 win over Halifax on Friday, and has 44 points to date on the year.

RW Mathieu Joseph, Saint John Sea Dogs

Drafted 120th overall (4th Round) in 2015

Now with points in 26 straight games, Joseph started off February with a three-point night and First Star honors in a 7-0 win over Cape Breton on Friday. He has 31 goals and 60 points in 37 games this season.

C Otto Somppi, Halifax Mooseheads

Drafted 206th overall (7th Round) in 2016

Pushing his point streak to seven-straight, Somppi has continued to surge through the start of February. He has five points in three games to start the month -- including this nifty goal on Sunday -- and 11 points in his last seven games. He is fifth in Mooseheads scoring with 36 points.

LW Dennis Yan, Shawinigan Cataractes

Drafted 64th overall (3rd Round) in 2015

Yan has nine points in his last eight games, continuing to pace all Shawinigan skaters in goals (34) and points (59).

NATIONAL COLLEGIATE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (NCAA)

F Ross Colton, U. of Vermont (Hockey East)

Drafted 118th overall (4th Round) in 2016

Colton leads his team in goals (10), assists (13), and points (23) through 27 games as a freshman. He was also runner-up for Hockey East's Rookie of the Month awards for January.

F Ryan Lohin, UMass Lowell (Hockey East)

Drafted 208th overall (7th Round) in 2016

Lohin is eighth in scoring with 18 points in 29 games for the River Hawks as a freshman forward.

D John MacLeod, Boston University (Hockey East)

Drafted 57th overall (2nd Round) in 2014

In his junior season with the Terriers, MacLeod has four assists through 22 games to go along with a plus-6 rating and 24 shots from the blueline.

G Kris Oldham, U. of Nebraska-Omaha (NCHC)

Drafted 153rd overall (6th Round) in 2015

Through nine starts, Oldham has a 5-3-1 record for UNO, with a 3.38 goals-against and a .895 save percentage.

D Ryan Zuhlsdorf, U. of Minnesota (Big-10)

Drafted 150th overall (5th Round) in 2015

Zuhlsdorf has two goals and three assists through 25 games with the Gophers this season, and is a plus-12 with 22 shots on goal.

AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE - SYRACUSE CRUNCH

The Crunch lead the North Division with .598 points percentage (23-14-4-5, 55 points) … They are sixth in the Eastern Conference … Matt Taormina and Cory Conacher lead the club with 38 points … Yanni Gourde leads the team with 16 goals.
