Lightning Director of Broadcasting & Programming Matt Sammon made the announcement Wednesday afternoon.
"Since we launched Lightning Power Play in October 2014, we've been able to create and add several unique shows with all sorts of perspectives of the great sport of hockey from a diverse group of dedicated and enthusiastic hosts," Sammon said. "Adding both Chris Peters and Jesse Spector to our lineup, with their outstanding journalism experience and passion for the sport, delivers two more entertaining programs for all fans to get their hockey fix on the weekend. We couldn't be happier to add both gentlemen to the mix on Lightning Power Play."
This Week in the NHL with Chris Peters will update fans on all the news, and plenty of opinions, on everything happening around the National Hockey League with the people who cover the sport daily.
Peters began his journalism career at Iowa State, and got his hands-on experience quite literally as the assistant general manager of the Cyclones' men's hockey team. The 2007-08 Brian Fishman intern with USA Hockey, Peters extended his stay at USA Hockey as the Coordinator of Communications and Marketing before moving on to a freelance writing role and later a position with CBS Sports.
"I am extremely excited to be part of the team at Lightning Power Play," Peters said. "Having the chance to speak directly with hockey fans about the stories and people that shape NHL conversations across the country and beyond is something I'm really looking forward to."
Jesse Spector Is… features a fun look at the latest hockey topics with writer Jesse Spector as host. A University of Pennsylvania graduate, Spector has covered sports for numerous publications since 1998, including ESPN's SportsTicker, The New York Daily News, and most recently The Sporting News.
Spector is thrilled to be talking hockey once again.
"Ever since I moved from hockey to baseball a few years ago, I've had hockey fans asking when I'd be back - and over the past couple of years, it's been a treat to step away from baseball and cover some playoff games," Spector said. "Now, I'm back for real! I'm glad to have a home on Lightning Power Play to talk hockey, and I'm looking forward to doing it with some great guests on an exciting platform."
This Week in the NHL premieres Saturday, December 3rd, at 8 a.m., and Jesse Spector Is… premieres the same Saturday at 9 a.m., part of Lightning Power Play's weekend programming which also includes new addition The Scrum Sports Hockey Show and Light the Lamp with 620 WDAE's Jay Recher. These shows will have their first run on Saturday, with replays throughout Sunday and Monday.
