TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning will host the 2018 Mini One-on-One All-Star Finals on Friday, January 26 at the Ice Sports Forum in East Tampa. The tournament will start at noon and conclude at 4:30 p.m. Lightning All-Stars Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov and Andrei Vasilevskiy will be at the event from 1-2 p.m.
A total of 14 National Hockey League teams (Anaheim, Boston, Buffalo, Chicago, Colorado, Columbus, Florida, Montreal, Nashville, New Jersey, New York Islanders, Philadelphia, Tampa Bay and Washington) will be represented by 16 youth skaters and 14 goaltenders (32 total players) from the squirt and peewee levels. Players will battle to become either the best youth shooter or goaltender in the NHL.
Players were selected by their respective NHL team by participating in local Mini One-on-One tournaments earlier this season. Skaters that won the tournament hosted by their local NHL team were then selected to represent their Club at the Mini One-One- Finals during Honda NHL All-Star Weekend in Tampa.
Additionally, the Lightning have added an extra element to this year's tournament, consisting of both on and off ice skills competitions similar to the GEICO NHL All-Star Skills Competition format. Shooters and goaltenders will compete independently, and separate from another. The tournament's Divisional play will consist of three rounds where every shooter will get two shots on each goaltender. The point value for each shot will increase as the rounds progress. Scores will accumulate for each shooter and goalie throughout all three divisional rounds, too.
The shooters and goaltenders advancing to the Tournament Finals, totaling the most points in the final round, will be named the 2018 Mini One-on-One Champions.
In addition to participating at the Mini One-on-One Finals, each participant has been awarded tickets to both the 2018 GEICO NHL All-Star Skills Competition on January 27th and the 2018 Honda NHL All-Star Game on January 28.
