Stamkos, Kirwan to Share Experience at 2009 IIHF World Championships With Fans

TAMPA BAY – Tampa Bay Lightning center Steven Stamkos and Video Coach Nigel Kirwan will be sending diaries from the World Championships in Switzerland for fans on  There will be a new diary each day during the tournament which begins on Friday. 

Stamkos, who also set the Lightning record for most goals in a season by a rookie with 23 in 2008-09, will be making his first appearance for Hockey Canada at the World Championships.  He is not lacking international experience though as he helped Canada to the Gold Medal at the 2008 World Junior Championships and also played in the 2007 World U-18 Championships.  Stamkos’ Lightning line-mate Martin St. Louis will also be representing Canada at the tournament.

Kirwan will make his second consecutive appearance as Video Coordinator for Team USA at the World Championships.  Kirwan just finished his 17th season in the Tampa Bay organization and his 13th as a member of the coaching staff.  He is responsible for the breakdown of pre-scout and game film, formulation of scouting reports on opposing clubs and the creation of highlight and specialty film used by players and coaches.  Lightning Head Equipment Manager Ray Thill is also making his second consecutive appearance at the World Championships. 

Also expected to participate in the tournament from the Lightning organization are goaltender Karri Ramo (Finland), right wing Martins Karsums (Latvia) as well as prospects Johan Harju (Sweden) and Vasily Koshechkin (Russia)
