St. Louis' 5 Assists Pace Canada In Romp Against Germany
/ Tampa Bay Lightning
Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis recorded five assists as Canada romped to a 10-1 victory against Germany. St. Louis, who is second on Team Canada with eight points in five games in the tournament, set up all four of Eric Staal’s goals as Canada improved to 5-0 in the tournament and remained atop Group F in the Qualification Round.
In other action Saturday, Alex Ovechkin scored the winner with six seconds remaining as Russia beat Sweden, 3-2, while Slovakia topped Slovenia, 4-3 in a shootout, and France outlasted Italy, 6-4, in the Relegation Round. Team USA will be back in action on Sunday with a crucial game against Finland in Halifax.
Canada plays its final game of the Qualification Round on Monday against Finland, a game that will decide who finishes first in the group. The top team will play the fourth team in the group, almost certain to be Norway or Latvia, while the second-place team will face a tougher opponent in either Finland or the United States.
