It was a slightly less eventful day at practice today with no “naked shootout” or any other extra activities. In case you missed it, yesterday after practice the team played a game where each player took a breakaway and if they didn’t score they would have to take off a piece of equipment. Surprisingly, Marty St. Louis was the last man standing, finally scoring while wearing nothing but sweats, hockey pants and a pair of sandals. Most of the players hadn’t played the game since their younger days and it was a great team building exercise.
Today’s practice was a lot less intense than yesterday’s. While yesterday’s featured heavy skating and battle drills, today’s worked on special teams and a few other things. Matt Smaby was back on the ice today after suffering a “lower body injury” with the Admirals last weekend. He did come off the ice before contact drills but he appears to be getting better. He is listed as day-to-day.
The San Jose Sharks were also practicing out at the Brandon Ice Sports Forum today with the KISS concert at the Times Forum tonight. There was a good contingent of Lightning fans that moved over to the other sheet of ice to see former Lightning defenseman Dan Boyle. The Sharks are coming in hot, winning their previous two games including a 7-3 game at the New York Rangers on Monday.
Looks like Mike Smith will get the start in goal tomorrow and he is sure to be tested by the San Jose offense.
