Tampa Bay Lightning forward Ryan Shannon has reportedly signed a three-year contract with ZSC Lions of the Swiss League and will not return to the Lightning next season, according to Damian Cristodero of the Tampa Bay Times.
Shannon, 29, recorded four goals and 12 points and had a minus-11 rating in 45 games while averaging 12:01 in ice time for the Bolts before his season ended in March with surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff in his shoulder. The native of Darien, Connecticut also dealt with a knee injury that forced him to miss 15 games in December and January.
After signing a one-year deal with the Lightning last summer, Shannon was expected to bring some speed as well as a good offensive skills set that was largely responsible for helping him produce career-high numbers as a member of the Ottawa Senators in 2010-11. Instead, however, Shannon struggled to find consistency in his game and even admitted having difficulty in adapting to head coach Guy Boucher’s system, according to the report.
