Richard, Swiss fall to Finland in only Lightning action on Sunday at WJCs

by Peter Pupello / Tampa Bay Lightning

In the only action concerning Lightning prospects on Sunday, Tanner Richard and Team Switzerland suffered yet another defeat, this time at the hands of Finland by a close 5-4 margin in the shootout.

The Finns now leapfrog Switzerland into second place of Group B with five points. The Swiss have now earned points in all three games and also have five points but are seeded third by virtue of Sunday's loss.

Finland came back from deficits of 2-0 and 4-2 for the win despite a fine game from Swiss netminder Melvin Nyffeler who faced 57 shots to only 23 by his own team.

Nyffeler set the tone for the Swiss early with a performance that was complimented by another fine outing from Richard, who had one assist on the night.

Richard made a fine pass in front to Sven Andrighetto, who helped put Switzerland up 2-0, before Finland regained its composure to counter with a few tallies of their own.

After coming back from a pair of two-goal deficits, Markus Granlund won the game for the Finns in the shootout tiebreaker to claim the victory.
