Steven Stamkos got the Lightning off to a strong start with an early power play tally, but five unanswered Penguins goals sent Tampa Bay to a 6-2 defeat at PPG Paints Arena on Saturday night.

The Bolts led for most of the opening period after Stamkos scored his fourth goal in three games, but Sidney Crosby equalized on an odd man rush just before intermission.
Danton Heinen put Pittsburgh in front for good with a power play goal early in the second before two goals 1:22 apart from Jake Guentzel and Jeff Carter in the opening stages of the third extended the deficit to three.
Bryan Rust and Brayden Point traded late goals before Rickard Rakell found the empty net to round out the scoring.
Brian Elliott made his first start of the season and was sharp despite the loss, finishing with 39 saves.
The loss drops Tampa Bay to 1-2-0 on the season and forces them to settle for a split in this back-to-back against the Blue Jackets and Penguins.
The Lightning now return to Tampa for their home opener on Tuesday night against the Flyers.
