Ohlund's Out-Takes: Getting ready to face the Germans

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning

My first full day yesterday was a blur with everything going on.  We had the morning open so I took the opportunity to rest up a bit since we were practicing in the afternoon.  We had our first practice of the Olympics at 2 p.m. and it was good to finally be on the ice with my countrymen.  After practice we had a series of meetings that went into the evening.  After all the meetings were over everyone just went to bed with our first game coming up.

Today we will play our first game of the tournament against Germany.  I’m really looking forward to getting started, its going to be a lot of fun.  Germany has a good team and it will be a good challenge for us.  In such a short tournament getting off to a good start is important.

It is really interesting being in the Olympic Village.  This morning I ran into and spoke with Andrej Mesazaros (playing for Slovakia) for example.  It is a lot of fun running into not only current team mates, but those I’ve played with over the years.  It is also fun meeting athletes from other sports. Being here has been a very good experience so far.

After the game I’m planning on meeting some friends for an early dinner.  I’ll check back in soon.  Hope all is well in Tampa.
