New and improved Platt Street Bridge to re-open January 17

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning
TAMPA BAY – Due to the completion of the construction project on the Platt Street Bridge in Downtown Tampa, the Tampa Bay Times Forum announced today that all guests and event ticket holders may once again use the bridge as an access point to the arena beginning Tuesday, January 17.

For the past 105 days, the bridge has been under repair to replace drawbridge mechanical components, in which downtown traffic has been significantly detoured. Beginning tomorrow, the bridge will re-open for all guests attending the 7:30 p.m. start of the Lightning’s home game against the defending Stanley Cup Champion Boston Bruins, as well as, any subsequent events held at the arena.

Times Forum administration will continue to work with Hillsborough County and the City of Tampa to best manage the flow of traffic into the downtown area for major events and some of the alternate routes offered to be the most suitable means of ingress for guests.

Occasional individual road closures and lane shifts may still occur, as before the bridge closure last October, until the reconstruction is fully completed this spring. The remaining work includes restoring the tender house, installing vintage street lighting and making other basic updates to the bridge and its components.

All guests traveling to the Times Forum may direct any questions or concerns about the project to the Hillsborough County Public Works Department at 813.272.5275.
