Extra Shift 04.08.2023

Coming off two earlier contests on this trip against the Rangers and Islanders in which they allowed a total of 12 goals, the Lightning wanted to finish the road portion of their regular season on a better note. Unfortunately, there weren't many positives to take out of this game. The Lightning continued to struggle with their defensive play, allowing numerous scoring chances. They were badly out-possessed during five-on-five action. And they yielded seven more goals.

There were a few bright spots. The Lightning's power play converted three times, which helped keep them in the game. Brayden Point tallied his 49th goal of the season, now needing just one more tally to become the third player in franchise history to score 50 in a season. And Mikey Eyssimont delivered an impactful performance for the Lightning; he recorded an assist (his first point since joining the Lightning) and had two in-alone chances on Cam Talbot, drawing a penalty on the second of those.
The Lightning wrap up the regular season this week with home games against Toronto on Tuesday and Detroit on Thursday. They'll look to regain the form they showed in the four games prior to this road trip - a stretch in which they allowed a total of three goals.
