GOLFERS TEAM WITH LIGHTNING TO RAISE MONEY FOR BREAST CANCER RESEARCH
The Tampa Bay Lightning will play host to LPGA professionals Cristie Kerr and Brittany Lincicome at the team's game on Friday night versus the Chicago Blackhawks. The golfers will sign Pink Lightning hats during the intermissions of the game, helping the team raise money for the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute. For this evening only, the hats will be discounted to $10 each and they can be purchased at section 104, which is where Lincicome and Kerr will be signing them. Those fans that already have the Pink Lightning hats can get those signed as well.
Kerr is hosting a breast cancer research fundraiser of her own on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Reunion Golf Resort & Club in Orlando. Named the UpLink Birdies for Breast Cancer Charity Golf Classic, the event features Kerr, Lincicome and several more LPGA pros who are getting together with amateur golfers and fans to raise money for The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the Florida Hospital Cancer Institute.
Kerr and Lincicome were two of the hottest names on the LPGA Tour in 2005, with Kerr winning more than $1.3 million and two tour events during the season. The 20-year old Lincicome, who was born in St. Petersburg, is recognized as one of the tour's top young players; she topped the LPGA driving distance average at 270 yards for the season.
After introducing the pink hat program in February, the organization has sold more than 7,000 of the hats, helping raise more than $70,000. The organization's relationship with the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute has lasted for several years with the Lightning driving hundreds of thousands of dollars to Moffitt as the cancer center has elevated itself to a status among the most elite in the nation.
