TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Lisa Esposito as the 23rd Lightning Community Hero this season during the first period of tonight's game against the Carolina Hurricanes. The family of Esposito, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, presented by Jabil, will donate the money to A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay, Trinity Café and Ye Mystic Krewe of Peg Leg Pirates.

For Esposito, her passion to help those in need and encourage others to do the same was a model of sheer kindness and humanity. Even in the midst of a five-year battle with cancer, to which she unfortunately succumbed to earlier this year, Lisa could not be swayed from her determination to support causes for the elderly, veterans and children. Her passion was helping A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay, an organization that provides residential services to foster children, specifically for sibling groups.
Even while she battled cancer, Lisa refused to let it damper her spirit of volunteerism and selflessness, donating many hours to making Tampa Bay a better place to live. Even though she is no longer with us, her memory serves as motivation to others to give back to those who need it most.
Esposito becomes the 434th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through tonight's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $22.65 million to more than 750 different nonprofits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. During the summer of 2016, the Viniks announced that the community hero program will give away another $10 million over the next five seasons.
