The 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning and the Lightning Foundation will host the 2006 Education Night for local students at the St. Pete Times Forum on April 3, 2006 as the Lightning face the Florida Panthers (7:30 p.m., Sun Sports, AM 620 WDAE). A portion of all proceeds will benefit the Hillsborough Education Foundation.

Prior to the game, Lightning television broadcaster Rick Peckham will teach his highly-successful "Hockey by Numbers" program to fifth grade students from Anderson Elementary School. The program is designed to tie together awareness of the Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning's achievements with fifth grade FCAT math concepts. Peckham will teach the program at 4 p.m. in the Calder Meeting Room on the Chrysler Suite Level at the St. Pete Times Forum.

The 30-40 minute presentation incorporates video highlights of the team and a workbook containing math problems relating to the Lightning and its players. Students will apply formulas they work with each day in class to learn about the hockey club's star players, how the team travels, and how a total team concept can result in a championship.

After the 'Hockey by Numbers' program children will receive a tour of the Tom McEwen Press Box from Lightning radio play-by-play announcer Dave Mishkin and will receive a tutorial on game operations from Jim Ciotoli, Lightning director of broadcast production and game operations.

Children will receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the St. Pete Times Forum upon their arrival, administered by representatives of the Lightning Foundation. Following the tour guests will have an exclusive dinner reception sponsored by Sun Coast Schools Federal Credit Union. At the reception participants will learn about the Tampa Bay Lightning education initiatives and partnerships with the Hillsborough Education Foundation, St. Petersburg Times, Newspapers in Education Program, SERVE and Volunteers in Education.

Following the meeting the children will watch the Lightning take on the cross-state rival Panthers at 7:30 p.m.
