TAMPA BAY – Preliminary auditions for the 2008-09 Lightning Girls will take place at the St. Pete Times Forum on Sunday, August 10, with registration beginning at 10 a.m. There are also two pre-audition workshops August 4 and 6 from 7- 9 p.m. at the St. Pete Times Forum. Workshops are $25 each and candidates are encouraged to attend at least one. The registration fee for the Lightning Girls audition is $20 or $15 if one of the workshops is attended.
Those interested in the workshop must fill out a registration form and submit it with payment by August 4 to reserve a spot in the class. Pre-registration for the audition is also due no later than August 4, or registration materials can be brought to a pre-audition workshop or directly to the tryout. Pre-registering allows for candidates to avoid waiting in line the day of the audition. Candidates must wear a half top, skin colored tights, form fitting shorts, and sneakers or dance shoes for the preliminary auditions. Additional information will be provided as candidates advance during the week.
The Lightning Girls are a talented group of dancers and skaters who entertain fans at all home Lightning games and appear at close to 250 events in the area each year. Auditions consist of various dance techniques, a dance routine, interview, skating skills and fitness challenges.
Applicants must be 18 or older, outgoing and able to commit to a busy schedule for the entire year. Previous dance or cheering experience is suggested, but no ice skating experience is necessary. It is also recommended to have a valid passport. Applicants must also live within 50 miles of the St. Pete Times Forum and must be a full-time student or employee, or a combination of both. A high school diploma or an equivalent is required.
