Lightning to Freeze Instagram Account on Wednesday

by Staff Writer / Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning will freeze its official Instagram account (@TBLightning) from noon to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9 to reward loyal fans with exclusive content and promotional giveaways.

Fans are encouraged to follow the Lightning Instagram account before the freeze begins at noon on Wednesday to be able to win tickets to the home opener at the Tampa Bay Times Forum on Thursday when they host the Florida Panthers. The team will also award authentic jerseys and t-shirts.

The prizes will be frozen in blocks of ice and hidden throughout the Tampa Bay area. Those hidden locations will be revealed on Instagram during the freeze period for fans to find and win.

“The Lightning Instagram freeze is just another way we are using social media to say thank you to our loyal fans,” director of digital media James Royer said. “This is just a fun and innovative way to connect with our fans and provide exclusive content as we open another season of hockey in Tampa Bay. To our knowledge, no pro sports team has ever used the full capacity of Instagram in this way.”

As part of the exclusive content during the freeze, fans who follow the Lightning Instagram account will be able to see special messages from Lightning players, and even get a sneak peak at exclusive Lightning in-game videos.

Fans who are not able to participate in the scavenger hunt will also have a chance to win a signed Steven Stamkos road white jersey.
