The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Times Forum will begin installing hockey ice on Thursday, September 27 at 5 a.m., the team announced today. The ice will be used for a number of purposes, including youth and high school hockey, as well as other community initiatives.
The process begins at 5 a.m. as the Times Forum staff will begin laying down a base coat of ice. Then at approximately 8 a.m. they will start painting it a base white color. Around 10 a.m., they will begin painting all the hockey markings, followed by putting another ice layer over the painted ice.
The Lightning are offering youth and high school players the opportunity to skate on the ice at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. Groups scheduled to practice at the arena are teams from the Brandon Ice Sports Forum, Tampa Bay Skating Academy, Clearwater Ice Arena and Ellenton Ice Rink. Local travel teams, the Junior Lightning, Scorpions, Flames, Junior Bulls, as well as all18 area high school teams are also scheduled to skate at the Times Forum. Club teams from the University of South Florida and the University of Tampa will also have ice time, along with teams from the Tampa Police and Fire Departments. The Lightning will also hold skates for Season Ticket Members and other key partners.

5-8 a.m. - Base ice
8-10 a.m. - Painting base white
10-4 p.m. – Painting hockey markings
