"We are extremely excited about celebrating the Lightning's 20th season with our fans and partners," said Lightning chief operating officer Steve Griggs. "From the founding of the team by Phil Esposito in 1990, to our first game in 1992, to the Stanley Cup Championship in 2004, and now to the present day, we look forward to reliving all of the organization's accomplishments on and off the ice. Most importantly we look forward to paying tribute to the fans for their support during the past seasons because without them none of this would be possible."
The Lightning will offer fans three ways to see the new 20th season logo. The best and first way will be to log on to www.20YearsOfThunder.com
to view an exclusive video commemorating the team's accomplishments and history featuring the logo. The new mark will also be displayed during Tampa Bay's draft party, being held at Champps Americana Sports Bar at International Plaza from 6-10 p.m., and on television as the on-stage jerseys in Pittsburgh will bear the logo as draftees pull on the Lightning sweater for the first time.
The 20th season website, www.20YearsOfThunder.com
, will be the home for everything celebrating the team's milestone. The site will go live on Friday at 11 a.m. Beginning on July 16 fans will be able to vote for their favorite Lightning moments and on August 15 they can vote for their all-time favorite players. All will be recognized during the 2012-13 season. After July 15 the site will also feature photos and videos from the team's past as well as a technologically advanced, interactive timeline of the Lightning's existence.
At the draft party, Lightning Radio will broadcast a special edition of its show, Lightning Hockey Night, with all the action at Champps on AM 1250 WHNZ, as well as web streaming available on both whnz.com and 620wdae.com from 7-10 p.m. Lightning management and draft selections will also participate with live call-ins, giving fans behind-the-scenes access to this year's NHL Draft. One lucky fan will have the chance to win a Tampa Bay jersey of the Lightning's first draft choice, while everyone in attendance will receive a free Lightning Yearbook and the chance to win other great prizes. In addition, fans will be able to win free 20th season merchandise throughout the night.
Fans will also be able to get involved via social media on Friday. In honor of him taking home the Maurice "Rocket" Richard on Wednesday, the Lightning will hide 20 Steven Stamkos bobbleheads throughout the Tampa Bay area and hold a "Stammer Seeker" contest on Twitter. The Lightning can be followed at @TBLightning
to join in on the action.
