TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning unveiled their new third jersey system today during Fan Fest at Amalie Arena. The third jersey is black and features the popular BOLTS logo from previous seasons across the front, with white trim and has blue and gray as secondary colors. The club will also wear a black version of their signature lightning bolt pants and black gloves as part of their new third jersey system.
Lightning captain Steven Stamkos revealed the new jersey system in front of fans in attendance at Fan Fest at Amalie Arena this morning. The new third jersey system was designed by Reebok and was influenced by Lightning management.
“We’re very excited to unveil our new third jersey today and invite our fans to go ‘Back in Black’ this season,” Lightning president Steve Griggs said. “The Lightning are proud to honor the history of the franchise by bringing back a black jersey system.”
The third jerseys will be worn by the Lightning 12 times during the 2014-15 season (full list of games at the bottom of release). The Lightning will wear the alternate black jerseys for the first time during their game on November 13 against the San Jose Sharks at Amalie Arena. The Bolts will play their regular season finale on April 11, 2015 against the Boston Bruins in their new black jersey system.
The Lightning will be going back to the color black for the first time since they made their magical run to the 2011 Eastern Conference Finals. Black had always been part of the Lightning’s coloring scheme from the beginning of the franchise’s inaugural season. The Lightning’s most memorable moment, the 2004 Stanley Cup championship, occurred while wearing black jerseys.
“I’m really looking forward to wearing the new third jersey this season and I’m glad it maintains the ‘Bolts’ across the front,” captain Steven Stamkos said. “I’ve always liked black jerseys in the past. It’s clean and crisp, and I think we’ll look a little meaner with the new black jerseys.”
Fans looking to purchase the new third jersey can begin pre-ordering it today by visiting Tampa Bay Sports, powered by Reebok, at Amalie Arena or on-line at www.tampabaysportsstore.com.
