The 2004 Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning have recalled defenseman Timo Helbling from Springfield of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis today, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.

Helbling, a 6-foot-2, 183-pound native of Basel, Switzerland, skated in five games with the Lightning this season after earning a roster spot out of the training camp. He recorded his first career point with an assist on October 13, 2005 against Buffalo and averaged 10:19 minutes of ice time per game in his five career outings.

Helbling has skated in 60 games with Springfield this season, scoring seven goals and dishing out 14 assists with two of his tallies coming on the power play. He has skated in 210 career contests in the AHL with Springfield, Milwaukee and Utah, recording 12 goals with 37 points.

The Lightning acquired Helbling from Nashville on February 25, 2004 in exchange for an eighth round selection at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
