The Tampa Bay Lightning have reassigned defenseman Timo Helbling to Springfield of the American Hockey League, Executive Vice President and General Manager Jay Feaster announced.
Helbling, 24, recorded one assist and four penalty minutes in five games with Tampa Bay. He played his first NHL game on October 5 versus Carolina and registered his first NHL point with an assist on October 13 versus Buffalo.
The 6-foot-3, 224-pound native of Basel, Switzerland played in the Swiss league in 2004-05 recording two goals, nine assists and 118 penalty minutes in 44 games with Kloten. He previously played for Davos in the Swiss league from 1998-00. He made his North American debut in the 2000-01 season with Windsor of the OHL and then played 150 AHL games with Milwaukee and Utah from 2001-04, tallying five goals, 16 points and 189 penalty minutes.
The defenseman was acquired by the Lightning from Nashville on February 25, 2004 in exchange for an eighth round selection at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. The Predators drafted Helbling in the 6th round, 162nd overall, in 1999.
