The Tampa Bay Lightning prospects fell to 0-2 at the Traverse City Prospect Tournament after a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday night. Tampa Bay was hampered by 20 minutes of penalties but were able to kill nine of 10 times shorthanded.
Following a scoreless first period the Lightning broke the tie at 5:16 of the second when Matias Sointu scored Tampa Bay's first goal of the tournament. Sointu also led Tampa Bay with four shots on goal. The Red Wings scored two unanswered goals to finish the second period with a 2-1 lead.
Less than three minutes into the third period Luciano Aquino tied the game at two with an unassisted goal. Detroit responded again with two goals of their own to take a 4-2 lead. They also added an empty net goal to secure the victory.
Dustin Tokarski got the call in between the pipes for the Lightning for the second consecutive game and made 22 saves on 26 shots. Kyle DeCoste, drafted this past June, led Tampa Bay with a plus-1 rating.
