Lightning, Mosaic team up to fight hunger with Goals for Food Program

The Mosaic Company and Feeding Tampa Bay to host canned food drive on the plaza prior to Thursday's game

TAMPA BAY - For the sixth consecutive year, the Tampa Bay Lightning and The Mosaic Company have partnered to help feed Tampa Bay's hungry and those in need in Central Florida. Prior to Thursday's game against the Minnesota Wild, the Lightning, Mosaic and Feeding Tampa Bay will be holding a canned food drive on Ford Thunder Alley beginning at 4:30 p.m. Fans who donate three canned goods or a monetary donation of $10 will receive a co-branded t-shirt courtesy of Mosaic, while supplies last. For every $1 donated, 10 meals will be provided to those in need. Fans may also support the cause online at donate.feedingtampabay.org/goals-for-food. Through the history of the program it has raised more than 5 million meals.

Mosaic will also be presenting a check in conjunction with the season long Goals For Food Program for more than $93,000 to Feeding Tampa Bay and 13 other regional food bank partners. In addition to Feeding Tampa Bay, recipients of this year's donation include: All Faiths Food Bank, Cutting Edge Ministries Inc., Feeding Florida, Hardee Help Center, Harry Chapin Food Bank of Southwest Florida, Help of Fort Meade, Meals on Wheels of Tampa Inc., Meals on Wheels Plus of Manatee Inc., Mulberry Community Service Center Inc., Giving Alliance of Myakka, Thomas Promise Foundation, Inc., United Food Bank and Services of Plant City, Inc. and VISTE (Volunteers In Service To The Elderly). 

This program links the success of the Lightning to helping food insecure families across families in the region. Mosaic donates $500 a goal scored by each Lightning player during each home game and $5,000 for every hat trick. The program will continue throughout the remainder of the Lightning's regular season home schedule.
