TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning, along with JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Operation Homefront, honored William Schenfield with a mortgage-free home located in Brooksville, Florida during the second period of Monday night's game versus the New York Rangers. Also included in this incredible presentation was a $1,000 travel voucher for Mr. Schenfield to enjoy with his family at a destination of their choosing.
Born in Elyria, Ohio and raised in Tampa, Florida, Schenfield aspired to follow his father's footsteps and enlist in the United States Marine Corps to serve his country. After serving his term of service, Schenfield was unable to reenlist as the Marines were not taking any prior service. He spent the next three years in the Army, where he served until an injury forced him into an honorable discharge in 2012. His future plans are to continue to go to school and graduate with a bachelor's of science next year in sports medicine and fitness technology. After graduating he hopes to gain employment and work with veterans and military families.
For William, being in this home will take off a lot of stress and focus on his family. "It means the world to me and my family," said William. "It's a safe place to continue to grow our family and focus on being a family." Honoring Schenfield with the mortgage-free home was Charlotte Merriam from Operation Homefront and JPMorgan Chase's Consumer and Community Banking Market Director Michael Gray.
