The Tampa Bay Lightning, in conjunction with the city of Sarasota, will host ‘Lightning Day in Sarasota,’ presented by the Downtown Sarasota Alliance (DSA), on Saturday, October 1 from noon to 2 p.m. for all hockey fans throughout the Bay Area to celebrate the start of the 2011-12 regular season.
Fans should head out to Central Avenue between 1st and Main St. in downtown Sarasota early on to enjoy a number of activities including a street hockey clinic, games, enter-to-win contests, raffles, prizes and more. There will also be opportunities to receive autographs and pose for pictures with several Lightning alumni, Thunderbug, the Lightning Girls and the Bolt Brigade. All in attendance are also encouraged to ‘Be The Thunder’ by wearing their favorite Lightning gear to support the team, as well as to receive discounts from participating downtown businesses. Mayor Suzanne Atwell of the City of Sarasota will present a proclamation to former Stanley Cup champion and current vice president of fans Dave Andreychuk to officially welcome the Lightning as a city partner at 12:30 p.m.
“Lightning Day in Sarasota will be exactly the dream day that we are hoping for,” said Sharon Foote Katzman of the Downtown Sarasota Alliance. “It will be a fun way to bring Lightning fans and their families together to enjoy a great event along with everything that Downtown Sarasota has to offer. The Downtown Sarasota Alliance is proud to welcome the Tampa Bay Lightning."
