Lightning Conference Week 9 Recap

by Jamie Kelly / Tampa Bay Lightning

The Lightning Conference just wrapped up its 10th week of the 2012-13 high school hockey season and Mitchell remains in first place with a 9-0-1 record and 19 points. Mitchell's lead in the standings is not by much, however, as East Lake and Palm Harbor are right on their heels, mounting identical 9-1-0 records for 18 points each.

This past week saw action resume earlier than usual, as games were slated for Monday and Tuesday night. The week was highlighted by Palm Harbor squeaking out a 5-4 victory against Jenkins, while Newsome cruised to a 20-2 win against Berkeley.

Steinbrenner and Berkeley will be looking for their first victories of the season when action resumes next Friday, November 30.

Newsome's Jared Goudreau has really cemented himself as the league's leading scorer with 30 goals and 52 points in just nine games this season, 10 more than the next-highest scorer. Goudreau produced a spectacular seven goals and 10 points in his team's 20-2 victory against Berkeley this past week.

It would go without saying that Wharton forward Julian Baron-Clark has also had a great campaign thus far, tallying 23 goals and 33 points in nine games this season, placing him fourth overall in league scoring.

Mitchell goaltender Joey Robinson has been a major factor in his team's road to remaining unbeaten, as he has sported a 1.60 goals-against average and a 9-0-1 record.

David Johnson has been rock solid in net for East Lake as he has recorded a 2.31 goals-against average and a 9-1-0 record.

The schedule resumes next Friday when every team is back in action. This schedule will feature two battles that will mark two teams as the heavy underdog, as first-place Mitchell (9-0-1) will battle 17 place Steinbrenner (0-9-0), while second-place East Lake (9-1-0) takes on last-place Berkeley (0-10-0).

Steinbrenner and Bloomingdale will have to bring their 'A' games in order to knock off two of the most elite teams in the league.
