TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning, AMALIE Arena and Vinik Sports Group today launched the 'Be the Thunder. Be the Vote." platform in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day. The program will focus on civic engagement and education while providing important, non-partisan resources for voters.

"As members of the Tampa Bay community, we owe it to our fans, arena patrons and staff members to support civic engagement," said chief executive officer Steve Griggs. "We are fortunate to be in the business of bringing the community together, whether it be for Lightning games, concerts, family shows or other events at AMALIE Arena. Vinik Sports Group is honored to be able to use our platforms to help support Tampa Bay residents in having their voices be heard."

In addition to providing information and other resources, Vinik Sports Group will close its corporate offices on November 3 so employees may vote and/or work at polling locations. AMALIE Arena will also be serving as an early-voting location as well as a mail-in ballet drop-off location from October 19 through November 1. The facility will be open every day from 7a.m. until 7 p.m.
In addition, the National Hockey League will be hosting a live Twitter panel discussion today at noon to educate fans about the importance of voting and to encourage them to register in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day. The panel will feature Blake Wheeler of the Winnipeg Jets, JT Brown of the Minnesota Wild and Earl W. Stafford from the Monumental Sports/Washington Capitals ownership group.
