TAMPA BAY – The Lightning High School Hockey League (LHSHL) today named forward Lucas Sowder, No. 11 for the Mitchell Mustangs, the league’s October Honda Player of the Month, and goalie Dominik Tmej, No. 31 for the Manatee Admirals, the league’s Moe’s Southwest Grill Goalie of the Month.
Sowder, the league’s current points leader with 39, is receiving this honor after helping lead the Mustangs to a perfect 4-0 record in October with wins over Countryside, Berkeley, Palm Harbor, and Seminole. He finished the month with a total of 29 points, recording seventeen goals, including two power play goals and two game-winning goals. Along with his outstanding play in the LHSHL, Sowder managed to receive a 3.6 GPA for the month.
A member of the Mitchell team that won the Lightning Conference Cup in 2014, Sowder also won a USA Hockey National Championship with the U-16 Tampa Scorpions in 2015, after beating the Affton Americans of Missouri, 3-1.
Sowder will receive a personal replica of the LHSHL Honda Player of the Month award, and will have his name permanently engraved on the LHSHL Honda Player of the Month award to be displayed throughout the season at Amalie Arena.
Tmej is receiving the honor after helping lead the Admirals to a perfect 5-0 record in October with four wins over Seminole, Jesuit, Sarasota, and East Lake. He allowed a total of eight goals in the four games he played and posted a .890 save percentage. He went undefeated in the first month of the season as well, winning all three games he played against Jesuit, Newsome, and Wiregrass, recording one shutout. On top of all these accomplishments he too maintained a 3.6 GPA for the month.
Tmej was the No. 1 goalie for the Manatee team that won the Lightning Conference Cup in 2015, after defeating the Mitchell Mustangs, 10-3, and taking the SAHOF State Championship.
