Jets Game Day Primer

by Peter Pupello / Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning will complete a back-to-back set tonight in Winnipeg following yesterday’s 5-3 loss to the Ottawa Senators.

Tonight’s game also concludes the team’s three-game road trip, as the Bolts will return home Monday.

Here are some notes leading up to the game tonight:

The big news this morning was that Guy Boucher was relieved of his coaching duties, so assistant coaches Martin Raymond and Dan Lacroix will serve as co-head coaches for tonight’s game against the Jets.

Cedrick Desjardins will likely get the start in net tonight according to the team, but that has not been confirmed by any member of the coaching staff.

Other news regarding lineups for tonight’s game is a bit of a mystery with obviously the big news coming down this morning taking center stage.

-Steven Stamkos is on a five-game goal-scoring streak against the Jets dating back to last season

-The Lightning are averaging 3.26 goals per game this season which ranks third in the NHL and also rank second overall with 101 goals.

-Martin St. Louis has recorded a point in 10 of his past 12 games and ranks second in the NHL with 32 assists

-Radko Gudas has recorded 26 hits over his past five games

-Stamkos is two points shy of tying Vaclav Prospal for fourth on the Lightning's all-time points list. He currently has 369 career points with the Bolts.

Steve Yzerman, on the dismissal of Guy Boucher:

“After watching last night's game I knew it was needed to be done immediately. This is not a desperate act to make the playoffs, but that is still our hope to do. Guy has poured his heart and soul into the Lightning organization for these past three years, but ultimately I am not satisfied with the direction we are heading and I believe making a change today is in the best interest.”
