Premieres on Sun Sports, Friday, June 23, at 9pm ET)
Stepping aside from its usual focus on players, coaches and administrators, this month's Inside the Lightning spotlights the wonderful work being done in the community by the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation.
Thanks to the generosity and ongoing involvement of the Lightning players, coaches and staff, the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation is able to make great strides in helping local charities each year. This year, the Foundation established a grant program benefiting nine local charities and, in fiscal 2006, the Lightning Foundation awarded nearly $500,000 in cash, plus numerous gifts of tickets and autographed merchandise to needy charitable organizations.
This half-hour television program takes a look at the importance of the Foundation and how it and its many volunteers and staff members are helping medical, educational and other vital needs in the local community.
Host Paul Kennedy sits down with Nancy Crane, Executive Director of the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation, as she tells viewers about the many events the Foundation hosts including: The John Tortorella Celebrity Fishing Tournament (which also airs as half-hour special on Sun Sports July 7, at 9pm), the Reindeer Run and Richy's Rascals.
Viewers also hear from players/coaches including Head Coach John Tortorella and his wife Chris, players Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis
, and team executives such as Lightning President Ron Campbell, as they talk about their commitment to the Foundation and what it means to them.
