Sun Sports Profiles The Man who Coached the Tampa Bay Lightning to Their First Stanley Cup Championship

Sun Sports' popular INSIDE THE LIGHTNING series profiles John Tortorella, Tampa Bay's accomplished head coach, this month. The new episode premieres Monday, December 26, at 10pm in Northern and Central Florida following the Hurricanes-Lightning game that night on Sun Sports. Additional replays are scheduled through the end of the month and into January.
Recipient of the Jack Adams Award as the NHL Coach of the Year during its Championship season, Tortorella reflects on his team's Stanley Cup success and the passion that drives his plan to remain on top. From his playing days at the University of Maine to the early years of his coaching career in such cities as Roanoke, Norfolk, and Rochester, Tortortella talks of lessons learned and of his path to the summit of the National Hockey League.
Now a 15 year NHL coaching veteran, the Boston native's aggressive "Safe is Death" strategies are being incorporated by numerous teams in the sport. Implementing scheme with skill, Torts produced one of the most honored clubs in professional history in 2004 as his All-Star cast captured the Ross, Hart, Conn Smythe, and Lady Bing trophies in addition to the first ever Cup in franchise history.
