Hero-2016-12-28

TAMPA BAY - The Tampa Bay Lightning honored Erin D'Addio as the 16th Lightning Community Hero of the 2016-17 season during the first period of tonight's game versus the Montreal Canadiens. D'Addio, who received a $50,000 donation from the Lightning Foundation and the Lightning Community Heroes program, will donate the money to the 1Voice Foundation.

D'Addio has made a profound impact on the pediatric cancer families living in the Tampa Bay area. As a volunteer, D'Addio has helped develop family support programs and services for children with brain tumors and their families. She knows first-hand what it is like to go through such difficult times, as D'Addio has undergone treatment for a brain tumor four times herself, starting at the age of eight. Despite her own health issues, D'Addio is the first volunteer to arrive and the last one to leave. She never stops giving her support to families dealing with the same issues she is.
The passion and dedication that D'Addio shares with families in need has made a significant change in the pediatric cancer community in Tampa Bay. She has enhanced support for children with brain tumors and all children battling cancer that are treated at All Children's Hospital, St. Joseph's Children's Hospital and Tampa General. D'Addio serves on the 1Voice Foundation program development committee where her input and insight is invaluable.
D'Addio becomes the 245th Lightning Community Hero since Jeff and Penny Vinik introduced the Lightning Community Hero program in 2011-12 with a $10 million, five-season commitment to the Tampa Bay community. Through this evening's game, in total, the Lightning Foundation has granted $12.4 million to more than 300 different non-profits in the Greater Tampa Bay area. Last summer, the Vinik's announced that the community hero program will give away another $10-million over the next five seasons.
