After Steven Stamkos’ two-goal game in Team Canada’s opener on Friday, Martin St. Louis out-did his teammate by one on Sunday, recording a hat trick in their second game of the 2009 IIHF World Championships. Canada improved to 2-0 in the 2009 IIHF World Championships with a 9-0 victory against Hungary at Arena Zurich-Kloten.


Serving as the alternate captain, St. Louis opened the scoring for the Canadians 5:18 into the game. Team Canada scored three more goals in the first for a 4-0 lead after 20 minutes. St. Louis struck again 7:35 into the second period to make it 5-0 and made good on the hat trick 4:51 into the third period. He led all Canadian players with 11 shots on goal and was tied for the lead with a plus-3 rating.

Lightning prospect Vasily Koshechkin was not in the line up Sunday as Russia defeated France, 7-2.
