You can't make this stuff up. When Kraken prospect and University of Michigan center Matty Beniers scored two goals in a 5-2 win over Big 10 rival and No. 19 nationally ranked Penn State Thursday, it marked his third straight two-goal games.
The last Wolverine skater to accomplish this feat of three-straight multiple goal game? Former Michigan star Jason Botterill, who happens to be a Seattle assistant general manager. Botterill scored 104 goals over four NCAA seasons, including 32 in 1995-96 when Michigan won the national championship.

Beniers now leads Michigan with eight goals on the season for the No. 2 nationally ranked Wolverine, no small accomplishment with 13 NHL draft choices populating the roster. Michigan is the first NCAA squad ever with seven first-round draft choices.
Beniers scored both goals on the power play, the first on a wicked one-timer from the right circle on a pass by 2021 No. 1 overall draft pick, defenseman Owen Power. Beniers appears to be getting better and more confident with each game.
Michigan play-by-play announcer Al Randall did the research and tweeted the info on Botterill, who scored three goals on March 2, 1997, two goals March 7 that year and finally four goals March 8. That's nine goals total, so the assistant GM does retain some bragging rights.
Beniers can outdo one of his future bosses in a rematch with Penn State Friday. Michigan is now 9-2-0 for the year and 4-1 in the deep and competitive Big 10 conference.
Here's a look at recent progress for other Kraken prospects, both draft choices and developing pros:

Draft Choices

Ryker Evans (2021 2nd round, 35th overall) - Evans is the most recent Western Hockey League Player of the Week. The defenseman assisted on a power play to tie a game earlier this week with Red Deer that ended in a tough 3-2 loss. Evans is Regina's leading scorer with three goals and 12 assists in 14 games.
Ryan Winterton (2021 3rd round, 67th overall) - Winterton is rehabbing a shoulder injury and not yet active for the Ontario Hockey League Hamilton Bulldogs.
Ville Ottavainen(2021 4th round) - The 18-year-old defenseman moved up to his Finnish pro team's top D-pair and scored in his last game. Ottavainen is part of Sweden's U20 team for this weekend's 4 Nation Tournament, a notable achievement.
Jacob Melanson (2021 5th round) - Melanson's Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team split two games with Halifax last weekend, snapping an eight-game skid. The good-sized forward scored Saturday night.
Semyon Vyazavoi (2021 6th round) - Vyazavoi's Russian junior league team, Tolpar, split this week's games with Loko-76. The goalie prospect played in both games, allowing four goals over the two games.
Justin Janicke(2021 7th round) - Notre Dame won both games last weekend. Janicke notched an assist. As a freshman forward with the Fighting Irish, Janicke has played up and down the lines.

Developing Pros Roundup

Going into the weekend and two road games, Kraken prospect Alexander True is the Checkers' leading scorer with five goals and five assists in nine games. He is centering the top line and getting time on the power play.
Goaltender Joey Daccord, back from two starts with the Kraken, won his second game for Checkers last Saturday in a 7-3 victory. He will no doubt get at least one of the weekend starts against the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins.
Fellow Kraken prospects Luke Henman and Carsen Twarynski scored their first goals of the Charlotte season Saturday. Henman's tally was the first goal of the night two minutes in the game. It's his first but far from last goal as a pro.
