The Kraken announced the signing of a new contract for restricted free agent Alexander True on Tuesday. The 6-foot-5, 200-pound forward agreed to a two-way, one-year contract with $750,000 average annual value (AAV) at the NHL level and a different salary for time spent with American Hockey League affiliate Coachella Valley.
"Alex had a productive season last year and we're looking forward to having him back with the organization," said Kraken General Manager Ron Francis.

True appeared in eight games for the Kraken last season, earning praise from head coach Dave Hakstol for "his presence on the ice and really good details in his shifts." The Denmark native was called up to the NHL roster when COVID-19 protocol reduced available forwards.
True, Seattle's expansion draft choice from the San Jose Sharks, was the leading scorer for American Hockey League affiliate Charlotte last season and played a major role in the Checkers winning the AHL Atlantic Division championship. True scored 18 goals and added 24 assists for 42 points in 60 games. He was a top scorer in the playoffs, too, notching three goals and four assists in seven games.
Coachella Valley head coach Dan Bylsma was the assistant coach for Charlotte last season as part of his role with the Kraken's player development group. During an exclusive postseason interview, Bylsma called True an "ideal teammate and leader" who clearly influenced the Checkers players (a split-squad of Kraken and Florida Panthers developing pros) to "get better every day."
"Alexander was gone from our club for about a month [when he was on the Kraken active roster]," said Bylsma about the team's leading scorer. "I'm glad for this opportunity. When he's been here, Alex delivered on being the best teammate."
True has appeared in 27 NHL games with the Kraken and San Jose. He was a star during his junior days with the Western Hockey League Seattle Thunderbirds, scoring the Calder Cup-winning goal in overtime to clinch the 2017 AHL championship. He has appeared in 15 games for the Denmark national team.
