Earth Day celebrated its 50th year in 2020 and will launch another half-century April 22. In recent times, the whole month of April has been celebrated as Earth Month. And why not? Our planet certainly needs the attention and awareness.
Climate Pledge Arena and the Kraken fully intend to join the proceedings. While the 900-plus construction workers working on the brand-new arena under the original landmark roof continue their efforts to build the world's first zero-carbon arena, we will roll out content throughout April to highlight our commitment to sustainability and environmental justice.

Early in the month, look for the first installment of an infographic series covering our "green"-minded efforts. The first infographic will give a nod to the league's "NHL Green Month" by reviewing our many splendored efforts in this color palate, including local rainwater as the supply for our "green ice," electric Zambonis, electric dehumidifiers in Climate Pledge Arena and composting/recycling for the arena's food and beverage services.
Other topics in the weekly infographic series will explore the definitions and goals of the Climate Pledge (co-founded by Jeff Bezos and Amazon in a commitment to be net zero carbon across businesses by 2040, 10 years ahead of the Paris Agreement) and Climate Pledge Arena and Kraken sustainable transportation plans.
On Earth Day, April 22, Climate Pledge Arena will be kicking off a monthly animated series about our efforts to become the most sustainable arena in the world-both as constructed and for ongoing operations. Monthly topics will explain, in a fun and understandable way, the workings of carbon neutrality, electrification and removing fossil fuels from arena operations, water conservation and sustainable food and beverage options.
There's more, such as stories about our solar-panel installation at Climate Pledge Arena and the Kraken Training Center, retail activations for a sustainable line of Kraken swag, an upcoming Amazon-sponsored Earth Day roundtable and sustainability efforts in our communities and region.
