Yahoo! Sports came out with their list of the NHL’s Top 25 Left Wingers
heading into the 2015-'16 campaign. Milan Lucic
is positioned at #20.
Kings General Manager Dean Lombardi acquired the 27 year-old power forward just moments before the start of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft on June 26 in a trade that sent the club’s first-round, 13th overall selection, backup goaltender Martin Jones, and defensive prospect Colin Miller to the Boston Bruins.
Lucic has spent his entire eight-year NHL career with Boston. In that time, Lucic eclipsed the 40-point mark five times – and was well on pace to surpass the 40-point plateau during the lockout shortened 2012-’13 campaign.
The newly-acquired King’s best season came in 2010-’11 – when he registered 62 points in 79 games played – scoring 30 goals and tacking on 32 assists in a year when the Bruins would later hoist the Stanley Cup.
Yahoo! Sports’ Sam McCraig recently came out with a list of the top 25 NHL players at each position heading into the 2015-’16 campaign.
“The man in black.”
Lucic is expected to fit well into Darryl Sutter’s system, where bringing his role as a heavy-hitter, hard forechecker, and apt scorer will be welcomed to create space for the likes of Anze Kopitar and Marian Gaborik.
His first career NHL goal came on October 12, 2007 in a game against the Kings at STAPLES Center.
Lucic is coming off of a season which saw him record 44 points – his lowest total in a full season since the 2009-’10 campaign. The Bruins, though, were hampered by injuries for much of the season, and the club, like the Kings, failed to qualify for the postseason.
Aside from his well-known gritty style of play, which is complimented with a respectable knack to create offense, Lucic brings a plethora of playoff experience (seven appearances with Boston), and a Stanley Cup Championship.
