Yahoo! Top 25 - Marian Gaborik

by Alex Kinkopf / Los Angeles Kings

Yahoo! Sports came out with their list of the NHL's Top 25 Right Wingers heading into the 2015-'16 campaign. Marian Gaborik is positioned at #14.

Gaborik is offensively gifted, there’s absolutely no disputing that.

The flashy forward was acquired on March 5, 2014 in a trade that sent Matt Frattin and a pair of draft picks to the Columbus Blue Jackets. The move proved to be another successful one for General Manager Dean Lombardi, as Gaborik proved to be a key facet in the Kings’ offense as they pushed their way to their second Stanley Cup Championship.

Gaborik joined the Kings for their final 19 regular season games during the 2013-’14 season, racking up 16 points (5G, 11A) as the club solidified a playoff berth for the fifth consecutive season.

During the 2014 postseason, Gaborik was arguably the Kings’ most valuable offensive asset. The veteran winger led the team in goals scored during the playoff stretch with 14, and was fourth on the roster in points with 22.

Last season, in 69 games with the club, Gaborik finished fourth on the roster in points scored with 47 (27G, 20A) – second on the team in goals scored, behind only Jeff Carter’s 28.

Yahoo! Sports’ Sam McCraig recently came out with a list of the top 25 NHL players at each position heading into the 2015-’16 campaign.

From Yahoo!:

“A pure scorer who can still electrify and shares great chemistry with Kopitar. The only question, as usual, is his ability to avoid injury.”

One of the few knocks on Gaborik’s consistency has been his history of suffering injuries, but in his time with the Kings, he’s managed to maintain a rather strong string of health.

Gaborik suffered a lower body injury, related to a muscle strain/pull during the 2015 preseason that saw him sit out eight games in October, then again missed time with an undisclosed upper-body injury that caused him to miss four games in late November/early December.

Gaborik will turn 34 during the upcoming season on February 14.

Like the rest of the Kings’ roster, Gaborik is coming off of a lengthy offseason, which should present the veteran forward with valuable time to enter his second full season with the Kings healthy and rested.
