Yahoo! Sports came out with their list of the NHL’s Top 25 Goaltenders
heading into the 2015-'16 campaign. Jonathan Quick
is positioned at #5.
The Kings drafted Jonathan Quick in the third round, 72nd overall, in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. Selected a year prior to his freshman season at UMass-Amherst, Quick wasn’t necessarily banked on being the Kings’ future #1 guy between the pipes.
A goalie who is no longer with the organization, Jonathan Bernier, was selected a year later in the first round, 11th overall, in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.
Quick, however, transitioned and developed at a much faster rate than Bernier, spending two seasons in the NCAA, and parts of two seasons in the AHL with the Manchester Monarchs before solidifying the #1 goaltending spot with the Kings in 2008-’09.
In his seven-plus seasons with the Kings, Quick has made 398 regular season starts, posting a 212-139-46 record, a .915 SV%, and a 2.27 GAA.
During the Kings’ five consecutive playoff appearances from 2010-2014, Quick started all 76 games – posting a 45-31 record that carried a .923 SV% and a 2.22 GAA.
Yahoo! Sports’ Sam McCraig recently came out with a list of the top 25 NHL players at each position heading into the 2015-’16 campaign.
“Two Stanley Cups in three years before missing the playoffs last season; look for Quick and the Kings to bounce back in 2015-16.”
During the 2014-’15 season, Quick went 36-22-13 in 71 starts, posting a .918 SV% and a 2.24 GAA.
Quick, with no injuries or health issues to account for, will be coming off his longest offseason since his second year with the Kings in 2008-’09 to begin the upcoming 2015-’16 campaign.
Quick is under contract with the Kings through the end of the 2022-’23 season when his 10-year deal with the club expires; Quick will turn 30 this upcoming season on January 21.
