Alfie Turcotte on son Alex's selection in NHL Draft

The pick was in. Moments before the LA Kings selected Alex Turcotte fifth overall, his father, Alfie, appeared to be digging for gold from his seat at the NHL Entry Draft.
At least that's how it looked to Ryan Whitney, analyst for NHL Network and one-fourth of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast, who was watching the draft on television, and tweeted out a candid photo of Alfie with the caption "when you're sitting next to someone who could be drafted any second you can't be knuckle deep picking a winner."
Finding himself in the same unenviable position as Jerry Seinfeld many years ago, the question confronting Alfie is, of course, 'was it a scratch or a pick?'

"I'll be honest with you, I'm not picking my nose. I'm itching my nose from the outside," Turcotte recently divulged.
Much like how Seinfeld tried to explain the situation to the woman he was dating, Alfie chalks it up to a bad angle, too. "It's the camera angle," he exclaimed. "I'm scratching the side of my nose. There's no way I could get my knuckles that deep in my nostril," Turcotte added.
Although Turcotte wasn't actually picking his nose, it didn't matter. The tweet went viral and currently has more than 22,000 likes. "My daughter showed it to me at the draft. Two minutes after it was up, she said it already had 500 hits," Turcotte explained.
"Bad camera angle, but then again, I was a sensation for one night. I have to laugh and own it," Turcotte joked.
Turcotte may have unwittingly got his fifteen minutes of fame, but the lasting moment for the family was when Alex was called to the stage and donned a Kings jersey for the first time.

Inside the LA Kings' selection of Alex Turcotte

While Turcotte is able to laugh about the episode, the last thing he wanted to do was take away from his son's special moment. "Whatever I did, I didn't want to embarrass Alex, which I probably did," he said.
One thing is for sure, it was no pick. "I was not picking my nose like that. That was really jacked up there, there's no way. I was scratching it, but the angle didn't do me justice," Turcotte stated unequivocally one last time.
Turcotte has moved on, but he may still have to settle a score with the former Penguin. "So it was Ryan Whitney who did that to me, huh? I'm going to have to talk to that guy," Turcotte noted.
Whatever Turcotte says to Ryan, one thing is for certain, he will pick his words carefully.
