LEE STEMPNIAK VS THE LA KINGS SCORING UPDATE:
Don't look now, Lee Stempniak... but Jeff Carter is coming for you!
So after two seasons
of Los Angeles Kings Legends Night
... the LA Kings are finally honoring a player from the most recent generation of Los Angeles hockey superstars...
Sure, in past the LA Kings have honored one of my favorite
players of all-time. They've celebrated a guy
who scored 50 points in 105 games for the Kings. And there are probably a whole bunch of players that they should be honoring
as LA Kings Legends. But none of that matters Saturday at Staples Center... because the LA are wearing their Purple and Gold
) jerseys!!! Oh... and the Kings are also honoring one of the rarest players to ever suit up for this franchise.
Rarest in the sense that he's one of the few players
to wear all of these various LA Kings jerseys.
As well as the standard-issue uniform of the late 1990s.
People don't realize just what a cult hero Ian Laperriere was amongst LA Kings fans. Ian was voted the teams' Most Popular Player
4 out of the 9 seasons he played in LA.
1996-97 Dan Bylsma/Ian Laperriere
1999-00 Ian Laperriere
2000-01 Ian Laperriere
2002-03 Ian Laperriere
Screw you, Dan Bylsma.
But most importantly, Ian Laperriere was known for his sense of humor.
Boy, that music sure is catchy, huh?
So apparently in the early 2000s the Fox Sports West video gear
did not include an "edit" button.
I guess that in addition to 8 minute awful sports comedy segments, Ian Laperriere was known for one more thing...
Oh, right... fighting!
But even though Ian Laperriere is retired from the sport of hockey... he'll always have a special place in Hollywood...
And by special place in Hollywood,
I mean being in awful Judd Apatow movies.
Besides... we all know that Ian's best acting work came after he left the LA Kings.
Ian became a free agent in 2004 and signed with today's opponent, the Colorado Avalanche. And in true LA Kings-fashion... he had his greatest offensive season ever once he left LA.
Never change, players that leave Los Angeles.
