Torrance, Calif. native and Harvard junior goaltender Brittany Martin was among the invitees as the 19-year old is vying for a spot on the 2007 U.S. Under-22 Select Team.
Team White is comprised of the 22 players who will go on to represent the United States as part of the U.S. Women’s Under-18 Select Team during a three-game series with Canada in Ottawa (Aug. 23-26). Meanwhile, Teams Blue and Red include 27 players in the Under-22 range, along with 18 post-NCAA athletes. The 27 younger players will be vying to be among the 22 selected for the U.S. Women’s Under-22 Select Team that will host Canada for a three-game series at the Olympic Center from Aug. 23-26. Martin, who just completed her sophomore year at Harvard, started 22 games, posting a 15-5-1 mark, with six shutouts, a 1.37 GAA and a .944 SV% helping the Crimson to a 23-8-2 mark. As a freshman, Martin saw action in six games, posting a 2-2-2 mark.
Highlighting the list of invitees are nine Olympians, including three-time Olympian Jenny Potter (Edina, Minn.) and two-time Olympians Julie Chu (Fairfield, Conn.) and Natalie Darwitz (Eagan, Minn.). In addition, 17 members of the silver medal-winning 2007 U.S. Women’s National Team will be in attendance.
NOTES: One player, who will be part of the U.S. Under-18 Select Team (Team White), is yet to be named … Eleven coaches will take part in the 2007 USA Hockey Women’s National Festival, as announced on June 6 … All athletes participating in the Festival will be housed at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, while all games and practices will take place in the Olympic Center complex at either the USA Rink or the 1980 Rink Herb Brooks Arena.
