Three Los Angeles Jr. Kings Tier I (AAA) teams celebrated California Amateur Hockey Association (CAHA) state championships in their respective divisions last weekend (Feb. 7-9) at The Rinks-Lakewood Ice (Lakewood).
The program’s 18U AAA team, coached by Jack Bowkus, went 3-0 to win the title in its division, culminating in a 9-1 triumph over the Ontario Avalanche on Saturday.
The Jr. Kings’ 16U AAA Major team, led by Louis Pacella, also went 3-0 and bested the California Titans in its championship game on Saturday, 3-1.
In the Bantam division, the Jr. Kings Major team, coached by Shawn Pitcher, downed the Anaheim Jr. Ducks, 2-0, in the deciding game on Sunday after going 1-1 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday.
The Jr. Ducks won the Pee Wee AAA division state title.
All three Jr. Kings teams will advance to the Pacific District Regional Championship Tournament, which will be contested from March 6-9 at Sharks Ice-San Jose.
The top four teams in each division in CAHA regular-season play qualified for state playoffs (in the Bantam AAA division, the San Jr. Sharks, who finished third in the regular season, earn an automatic bye to regionals as hosts), which for the second year in a row used a double-elimination format.
