Friday, Oct. 12 (whoops...this was supposed to be published Friday, but LAKings.com has been busy)
This week's mailbag was full of questions on topics ranging goaltending questions to what song plays during the Kings opening intro. Find out those answers and more in this week’s Royal Mailbag. LAKings.com will get your questions answered every other Friday in its usual time slot. So send in your questions early and often.
Hey, I love the new opening for the Kings with that awesome on ice projection and that sound about downtown Los Angeles. I was wondering, who sang that song?
Matt M., Long Beach, Calif.
Matt, thanks for the question. The song is called “DTLA,” performed by singer/songwriter Gary Jules. You can read more on Gary Jules by visiting his official site at garyjules.com or check out his myspace page.
I heard that the Kings have nine games to decide whether to keep Jonathan Bernier or send him back to the Juniors. Does this mean nine Kings games or nine starts for Bernier, and if he stays, can he be sent down to the minors?
Thanks for the question Jeremy. Since Bernier is 19 years of age, he is not old enough to play at the AHL level. If he appeared in 10 games with the Kings, the first year of his three-year entry level NHL contract will be activated.
Kings management, however, chose to return him to his junior team on Monday, Oct. 15.
Do you know how many games will be broadcast in HD this season by FSN West or Prime Ticket?
Yes, FSN will broadcast 10 games in HD. The first was yesterday, Oct. 14 vs. Detroit and the rest will be: Oct. 23 vs. Nashville at 7:30 p.m.; Nov. 15 vs. Anaheim at 7 p.m.; Dec. 1 vs. Colorado at 7:30 p.m.; Dec. 17 vs. Colorado at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 1 vs. Chicago at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 22 vs. Detroit at 7:30 p.m.; Jan. 24 vs. Anaheim at 7 p.m.; Mar. 20 at Phoenix at 7 p.m. and Mar. 27 vs. Phoenix at 7:30 p.m. Note that this schedule is subject to change.

I saw on LAKings.com that Dan Cloutier earned his first win with the Manchester Monarchs on Oct. 12. Being that he has played in the NHL for quite a while, I was wondering when was his last AHL victory?
Mario H., Downey, CA
Great question Mario. We here at LAKings.com were wondering that exact same thing. So Kim Mueller, the PR Director with the Manchester Monarchs looked it up for us and Cloutier last played in the AHL with the Hartford Wolf Pack in the 1997-98 season. His last win that season was a 3-1 victory over the Saint John Flames on Feb. 21, 1998…so that is nine years, seven months and 21 days between AHL wins.
I lived in SoCal for 15 years and have loved the Kings since 1988 when I started to watch hockey. I just wanted to send an email and say good luck this year to the team and coaching staff. Enclosed is a picture of myself and my daughter, Clara, who is also a Kings fan. Hope the year goes well and I will be cheering loudly from Kentucky. Have a great season and be safe.
Curtis M., Lexington, Ky.
Curtis, loved the picture and good to see a fan representing the Kings down South. Love the cornhole boards in the back buddy. Thanks for the note and GO KINGS GO!
I would like to know what stations are on the Kings radio network.
The Kings are in the second season of a partnership with KTLK AM 1150 (a Clear Channel Communications property) to serve as the club’s flagship station. All preseason, regular and post-season games can be heard on the Kings flagship with play-by-play announcer Nick Nickson and color commentator Daryl Evans calling the action. Some affiliates may not carry all games (contact your local listing and/or affiliate for their broadcast schedule), and some games on AM 1150 may conflict.
AM570 KLAC, the sister-station of AM 1150, is the strongest and most respected sports station in the market. Talk Kings hockey with AM570’s lineup, which features local shows like Jim Rome, “The Loose Cannons” with Steve Hartman, Vic “The Brick” Jacobs and Mychal Thompson, Matt “Money” Smith and Petros Papadakis (PMS), The Joe McDonnell Experience and weekends with Lee “Hacksaw” Hamilton and Joe Grande.
