It might be time to call this one over, folks.
Just like the Calgary Flames season was a few weeks ago.
1 point vs DALLAS the LA Kings will be at least the 7th seed.
A regulation win vs DALLAS and a MINNESOTA regulation loss
the LA Kings will be at least the 6th seed.
The Los Angeles Kings have now made the playoffs for a 4th consecutive season. This is the first time the LA Kings have made the playoffs that many years in a row since 1987 until 1993 when they played in the post-season for 7 straight seasons. Drew Doughty has now made the Stanley Cup Playoffs 4 out of the 5 seasons that he's played in Los Angeles. Wayne Gretzky made the playoffs 5 out of the 8 seasons he played in LA.
An artists' rendering of what Drew Doughty would look like playing with Wayne Gretzky.
Now that the LA Kings are guaranteed a place the the NHL Playoffs and have a shot at winning a second straight Stanley Cup... it's time to take a look at what really separates a winning team in the playoffs from a losing team in the playoffs... chemistry! So we here at The Royal Half called upon the advanced hockey statisticians at Hollywood Psychics to take an in-depth look at the compatibility amongst some of the Los Angeles Kings best players! It's something we like to call...
The following below are actual astrological readings from the good folks at Hollywood Psychics who took the time to analyze specific players on the LA Kings team.
Mike Richards (Aquarius) & Jeff Carter (Capricorn)

As linemates for the LA Kings, Mike Richards and Jeff Carter are a fine example of two very different teammates bringing out the best in one another. As an Aquarius, Richards is more apt to see a bigger, loftier, more abstract picture while Capricorn Carter is likely to be grittier, more cautious and practical in his approach to things. While their outlooks may differ, Capricorn and Aquarius are both very focused individuals and their common goals help band these two players together, making them a tandem to be reckoned with on the ice.

These two signs -- and players -- help balance one another out. Aquarian Richards encourages Capricorn Carter to think outside of the box, while the more balanced Carter offers a steady system of support to Richards, helping to further direct his focus and keep the Kings on-point and on-target for the Stanley Cup.

Drew Doughty (Sagittarius) & Trevor Lewis (Capricorn)

Like Richards and Carter, Drew Doughty and Trevor Lewis are another pair of Kings whose friendship makes for effective teammates. Due to his outgoing Sagittarian nature, Doughty helps balance out the more reserved Lewis -- another Capricorn like his fellow King, Jeff Carter. Lewis is all about digging into the details -- never underestimating the opponent and maintaining a keen eye on strategy. By contrast, Sagittarius Doughty is a willing, adventurous soldier of fortune, his fiery fire-sign nature keen to burn up the ice and not shy away from confrontation. As a mutable sign, Sagittarius is happy to take direction and apply his own creative spin when the occasion calls for it.

As teammates, Doughty and Lewis are continually learning from one another and help make one another more well-rounded individuals. Sagittarius comes to admire Capricorn’s rigid sense of discipline and good sportsmanship. In turn, Capricorn feeds off of Sagittarius’ unbridled enthusiasm for the game -- and life in-general.

Jon Quick (Aquarius) & Jon Bernier (Leo)

They’re both goalies. They’re both named “Jon.” And they both play for the L.A. Kings. You don’t get much more simpatico than that! It seems written in the stars that Jon Quick and Jon Bernier would be pals off the ice too... owed in-part to their highly-compatible zodiac signs. Quick is an Aquarius, while Bernier is a Leo. Although Aquarius is an air sign prone to unpredictability, the sign meshes well with bombastic Leo the Lion -- a fire sign with a gregarious personality driven to lead.

TRH: I don't know... I think Jon Quick can be gregarious too.

Friendly competition is the name of the game for Leo and Aquarius and the two are almost always pushing the other to do better and out-do one another in the spirit of friendship and sportsmanship. Communication is key, with Aquarian Quick and Leonine Bernier. They are open about their goals and will stop at nothing to help further the others’ career. Buoyed by this sense of friendly competition, their enthusiasm for the game and good-natured attitudes help foster a sense of team spirit among the rest of the Kings’ players... and their fans.

I really appreciate the in-depth analysis by the team at Hollywood Psychics... but I asked them for one more reading on perhaps the most unusual LA Kings friendship...

Barring a lesson in geography and social studies, how do Los Angeles, CA and Columbus, OH compare to each other astrologically? We’ll examine both cities pasts and presents through a mixture of Chinese and Western astrology. Chinese astrology is based on one’s year of birth -- or in the case of these cities, their year of founding. We’ll use the more widely-recognized Western astrology to examine the characteristics of each city’s current mayor responsible for calling the shots that affect his constituents.

Founded in 1781, Los Angeles was “born” under the sign of the Ox.  Known for it’s down-to-earth attitude and industrious nature. The Ox is self-sufficient, but places an immense value on the bonds of family and friendship. The Ox’s ability to balance work with play seems to naturally translate to L.A.’s position as a center for art and innovation within the U.S., as well as the global stage. (Hello, Hollywood! How ya doin’, Silicon Valley!)

The City of Angel’s current mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa, is born under the sign of Aquarius, the water bearer. It seems oddly fitting, given L.A.’s close proximity to the Pacific Ocean. Aquarius is often dubbed “the visionary dreamer” of the zodiac, which makes it even more remarkable that a city known for transforming its grand ideas into full-fledged industries would elect a visionary of its own as its highest official.

By contrast, the Midwestern city of Columbus was officially founded in 1812, marking it as having been “born” under the sign of the Monkey. In Chinese astrology, those born under the Monkey are characterized by their love of fun and curiosity. Also known for his intellect, the Monkey’s intelligence can sometimes translate to boredom if not given a chance to express himself. The Monkey is traditionally viewed as the sign of imagination, which seems to fit with Columbus’s  economy upon a variety of industries across the board including education, banking, fashion, and defense.

Michael B. Coleman, the present mayor of Columbus, was born on November 18, making him a Scorpio. Scorpios are extremely driven, charismatic individuals who have a tendency to play their cards close to the vest and be rather secretive about their doings. Strategy and imagination seem to be the name of the game for those who hail from Columbus.

Tommy Lasorda's analysis...
LA rulez, Columbus droolz.

Seriously... did you think it would be someone else besides Dustin Penner?!?
