ARE THE LA KINGS IN THE NEXT ROUND?
During the past two rounds of the NHL Playoffs, we've had our resident TRH 1990s LA Kings Historian, Spike Coffman, dig up some classic videos from his vast archive. And late last night, I realized that we haven't had Spike re-visit LA Kings 1990s hockey during this Western Conference Final like he did in the 1st and 2nd Round. So today... here is a completely random showcase of a 1990s Los Angeles Kings hockey game that has absolutely nothing to do with the LA Kings game against the Chicago Blackhawks today.
I've made a huge mistake.
Tomorrow, Sunday... it will be exactly 20 years ago. June 9th, 1993... aka the last time the LA Kings lost a playoff game this late in the year.
Ok, with Game 5 in Chicago today...
this is much more painful to watch than I thought it would be.

Paul DiPietro opened up the scoring for the Montreal Canadiens in the 1st Period. That is probably the funniest thing I'll write all day.
Man, the good old days of hockey...
when scoring first goal at home meant you were going to win.
To be honest, the most amazing thing about this footage is that the Stanley Cup Final was featured on Prime Ticket, the LA Kings regional cable network in the 1990s. But on Spike Coffman's copy of this game... something even more unbelievable happens in the 2nd Period...
It switches to ESPN coverage of the Stanley Cup Final.
And even rarer than proof of ESPN covering a big hockey game...
Marty McSorley scoring a big goal in a big hockey game.
And then later in the 2nd Period... current Carolina Hurricanes coach, Kirk Muller, does his best Slava Voynov impression.
After something called Stephan Lebeau scores and Paul DiPietro gets his 2nd of the night, Game 5 is over. The LA Kings have lost Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final... but they have built a quality team and are set for the future. Right, Barry Melrose?
FYI, the LA Kings didn't make the playoffs for another 4 seasons after this interview.
Some people question why I would re-visit one of the LA Kings' worst Game 5 experiences on the day of the LA Kings current Game 5 elimination situation...
To see Bob Miller sing Achy Breaky Heart, of course.
