OILERS + FLAMES VS THE KINGS POINTS UPDATE:
On Tuesday night at Staples Center, the Los Angeles Kings lost 2-1 in the shootout
to a team starting a 3rd string goaltender
amongst an already injury-depleted lineup. And even though the LA Kings possession numbers
were off the charts
during the game, overall the team looked distracted and unable to focus. Well, at least most of the team.
The best part is at 24 seconds when Jarret Stoll starts to crack up.
To say that the Ben Scrivens Video Photobomb™ created a stir on the internet Tuesday is an understatement.
both those via reddit
The best part of all of this is that Ben Scrivens staring into the camera during Jarret Stoll's bench interview was only the 2nd greatest meme moment from Ben Scrivens this season.
WHAT WE LEARNED FROM THE PAST GAME:
Contractually, I'm unable to say anything about these above photos.
But I think Jon Quick sums it up nicely.
LA TOURISM BOARD:
The Boston Bruins come into Los Angeles
dealing with a lot of injuries
and some sub-par play from their #1 goaltender
. Sure, LA and Boston are the top 2 defensive teams in the NHL... but how do they really compare when it comes to the most important hockey advanced stat.... OLYMPIC PLAYER SELECTIONS!!!
The Boston Bruins have 1 player selected to the Canadian Olympic Team, while the Los Angeles Kings have 2. Let's see how they matchup.
BOSTON: PATRICE BERGERON
In 2010, Bergeron won Olympic gold despite only having 1 assist in 7 games playing on a line with Sidney Crosby and Rick Nash. He also thinks the Stanley Cup is more important than an Olympic medal. Is this really the guy you want representing your country?
LOS ANGELES: JEFF CARTER & DREW DOUGHTY
Drew Doughty was the breakout star of the 2010 Olympics, playing top pair minutes as a 20 year-old. Jeff Carter was an injury selection for the 2010 team, but was not on the main roster.
Patrice Bergeron isn't even the most famous Bergeron in all of North America. (Even though some prominent Bruins bloggers say he is the greatest Canadian Bruin of all-time.)
Plus, Patrice Bergeron is from L'Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec while Drew Doughty and Jeff Carter are both from London, Ontario. And we all know that the secret to winning in Canada is to be a good ol' Ontario boy.
Not only do the Boston Bruins not have a Russian player on an Olympic Roster... they don't even have a Russian player on their own roster... or even a Russian player in their prospect system! (Suck it, Maxim Chudinov!) So it's no surprise here that Slava Voynov's selection to Team Russia puts the LA Kings as the clear front-runner in this category.
Here is where these two teams really match up.
TUUKKA RASK, FINLAND
ZDENO CHARA, SLOVAKIA
LOUI ERIKSSON, SWEDEN
ANZE KOPITAR, SLOVENIA
Sure, it's great that Rask, Chara and Eriksson will be representing the Boston Bruins amongst the fringe countries participating at the Winter Olympics... but are those 3 the ONLY players from their individual countries playing in the Olympics??? Yeah, I thought so.
While the LA Kings have two players representing the greatest country in the world at the Winter Olympics... an original 6 US franchise, the Boston Bruins, has none. And that must break Jack Edwards heart.
